In my opinion, the difference between being a citizen by birth and being a naturalized citizen can't determine whether or not someone is more or less grateful. When it comes to being able to compare the hardships of life with and without citizenship, both naturalized citizens and citizens by birth can empathise. The appreciation of citizenship for both examples rely on other factors such as where they were born and where their family is from.

(this is subjective and doesn't use either option as an answer which may not be ideal)
