The absolute value of a number is added to the original number. Kayla says the sum is always 0. Is she correct? Why

    The absolute value of a number is its distance from 0. The absolute value of - 4 is 4, the absolute value of 4 is 4.

    -4 + 4 is 0, so she's right there; but 4, + its absolute value, 4, is 8. This means that Kayla is incorrect.
