Which strategy best explains how to solve this problem?

Artie was saving pennies. On the first day, he saved 2 pennies. The next day, he saved twice as many as he did the first day, giving him a total of 6 pennies (2 + 4). He continued doubling the number of pennies he saved each day for 10 days.

How many pennies did Artie have all together at the end of 10 days?

A.

Translate into a number sentence.

10 * (2 + 4) = b

First add up the pennies in the first and second day. Then you need to multiply by the total number of days.

B.

Make a table.

Day Pennies saved that day Running total

1 2 2

2 4 6

3 8 14

C.

Draw a diagram.

Draw 2 pennies and label them Day 1. Draw 4 pennies and label them Day 2. Draw 8 pennies and label them Day 3. Continue this for the 10 days and then count all the pennies on Day 10.

Option c because with the diagram you can see the differences as a visual instead of just numbers
