1/2 because 36 is half of 72. You could also divide the numbers by 12 and you will get 3/6 which is the same as 1/2.

36/72. You can simplify this by dividing both numbers by their greatest common factor. The greatest common factor here is 36. 36/36 = 1 and 72/36 is 2. So the final fraction is 1/2
