let x be the number of adults

let y be the number of child

3.5 x + 2.25 y = 50

x + y = 20 y = 20 - x

3.5 (20-y) + 2.25 y = 50

70 - 3.5 y + 2.25y = 50

70 - 1.25 y = 50

y = 16

and x = 4
