So,
Substitute - 8 for y
-8 = - 2x - 12
Add 12 to both sides
4 = - 2x
Divide both sides by - 2
-2 = x

-8=-2x-12
add 12 to both sides
12-8=-2x+12-12
4=-2x+0
4=-2x
divide both sdie sby 2
2=-x
multiply - 1
-2=x
