    F (x) = 5x^2-2x, g (x) = x^2-x+5

    (f+g) (x) should equal f (x) + g (x), so

    f (x) + g (x) = (5x^2 - 2x) + (x^2 - x + 5)

Now drop the () and line up like terms side by side, then add:

    5x^2+x^2 + - 2x-x + 5 = 6x^2-3x+5
