    The first step you would do to solve this equation is to put numbers on one side and variables on the other. Right now, you have 3p - 7 + p = 13, which is close, but - 7 is in the side of the variables. So, in order to get - 7 to the other side, you simply just move - 7 to the other side. (Remember that once you move the number or variable to the other side, you have to change the negative to a positive or a positive to a negative) So your result would be 3p + p = 13 + 7.
