Hillsboro has a population of 17,000 people. The town has been seeing its population decline by 5% every year. If this trend continues, what will the population be in 6 years?

    You would set an equation 17000 (.95) ^6 and. 95 because the value is depreciating and raising it to the 6th power because 6 is the amount of years you're trying to figure out the population amount.
