    X (y-9) - 8 (y-9)

First distribute the x meaning multiply x by each term that is in the bracket

So x times y equals xy

    Then multiply x by - 9

    So x times - 9 equals - 9x

    Then multiply the - 8 by y.

    -8 times y equals - 8y

    Then multiply - 8 by - 9

    Which equals 72

    So your answer is xy-9x - 8y + 72

    Just distribute >

    (x) (y) + (x) (-9) + (-8) (y) + (-8) (-9) > xy + - 9x + - 8y + 72
