    So you add like terms

    so if you take the - 2+3 part, we know that - 2+3=3-2 = 1 so we can put 1 in place of - 2+3 so

    a+1=-2

    now we can do anything to the equation as long as we do it to both sides except divide by zero so

    subtract 1 from both sides

    a+1-1=-2-1

    remember that - 2-1 = (-2) + (-1) = - 3

    a+0=-3

    a=-3
