First, let's add the two from both sides.
y + 2 = 3x - 2 + 2
y + 2 = 3x
Now, all we have to do is to divide both sides by 3.
(y + 2) / 3 = (3x) / 3
(y + 2) / 3 = x
And now, flip both sides around so it looks nicer.
x = (y + 2) / 3
