How many 4-letter code words are possible using the first 8 letters of the alphabet with no letters repeated? how many codes are there when letters are allowed to repeat?

    With no letters repeated:

    8*7*6*5 = 1680

    When letters are allowed to repeat:

    8^4 = 4096
