How can i solve for x & y

-14 - 3i = 2 x + yi

    Solving for x

    Since x is on the right hand side of the equation switch the sides so it is on the left hand side of the equation.

    2x+yi=-14-3i

    Since yi does not contain the variable to solve for move it to the right-hand side of the equation by subtracting yi from both sides.

    2x=-yi-14-3i

    Divide each term in the equation by 2.

    x = - yi / 2 - 7 - 3i / 2

    Solving for y

    Since y is on the right hand side of the equation switch the sides so it is on the left hand side of the equation.

    2x+yi=-14-3i

    Since 2x does not contain the variable to solve for move it to the right hand side of the equation by subtracting 2x from both sides.

    yi=-2x-14-3i

    Divide each term in the equation by i.

    y=2xi+14i-3

    x=-yi/2-7-3i/2

    y=2xi+14i-3
