A political candidate wanted to understand what issues were important to their voters. They asked 1,999 voters, "Which issue is the most important: crime, city planning, or health care?" The results of the survey are shown in the two-way table below:

    This event can be broken down into two sub-event.

    1) The person selected is male

    AND

    2) The person feels that crime is the biggest problem

    The probability of 1:

    (118 + 239 + 458) / 1999

    = 0.4077

    The probability of 2:

    118/815

    = 0.1448

    Probability of both occurring:

    0.4077 * 0.1448

    = 0.0590

    = 5.9%
