    Its 3

    3^2 = 9 ... - 5 = 4 ... x 4 = 16 ... - 7 = 9/3 = 3 ... + 6 = 9

    He started with 3. 3 X 3 = 9. 9 - 5 = 4. 4 X 4 = 16. 16 - 7 = 9. 9 divided by 3 = 3. 3 + 6 = 9.
