    Combine like terms first:

    4x+7=23

    Subtract seven from both sides:4x=16

    Divide both sides by 4

    x=4

    Plug 4 into the original equation to check work:6 (4) - 2 (4) + 7=23

    24-8+7=23

    16+7=23

    23=23

    Put the x on one side of the equation (divide x from the 6 and 2)
