The duty on a car was decreased from 45% to 35%. if the new duty is ¢5400 what was the former duty.

    The easiest way to do it is to make a ratio. 45% is equal to. 45 and 35% is. 35.

    .45/x=.35/5400

    Now you cross multiply and divide to find the previous duty.

    5400*.45=2430

    2430/.35=6942.86
