The radii of two circles are in the ratio of 3 to 1. Find the area of the smaller circle if the area of the larger circle is 27 pi sq. in.

    Use a ratio

    3/1=27pi/x

    27pi=3x

    x=9pi

    smaller circle is equal to 9pi
