    1 1/8 - 3/4 =

    9/8 - 3/4 =

    9/8 - 6/8 =

    3/8 ... so she ran 3/8 miles per day

    what u have is an arithmetic sequence with a common difference of 3/8.

    And we are looking for the fifth term ...

    an = a1 + d (n - 1)

    n = term we want to find = 5

    a1 = first term = 3/4

    d = common difference = 3/8

    now we sub

    a (5) = 3/4 + 3/8 (5 - 1)

    a (5) = 3/4 + 3/8 (4)

    a (5) = 3/4 + 12/8

    a (5) = 6/8 + 12/8

    a (5) = 18/8 reduces to 9/4 or 2 1/4 miles < = = jogged on 5th day
