Lady Macbeth's role in the murder of King Duncan lets you know immediately that this character is manipulative and cutthroat and is always willing to seize any opportunity for power. Unlike her husband who desires power but does not have the wherewithal to seize unless he believes he has some noble purpose to do so and this lets the reader know that he is gullible and cowardly.
