Set up the division problem in long division format Move the decimal the same amount of places in both numbers until the divisor is a whole number. Divide 24 by 3 to get 8. Place this next digit in the quotient on top of the division symbol. Multiply the newest quotient digit (8) by the divisor 3. Subtract 24 from 24 to get 0. The result of division of 23 over 4 so the answer is 8.
