let the numbers be x and (x-5)

x (x-5) = 36

x^2-5x-36=0

solving the equation we get

x=9 and x = - 4

now find out the integers

2nd number = x-5

x * (x-5) = 36

x^2-5x = 36

x^2 - 5x-36 = 0

factor the polynomial:

(x-9) (x+4)

9-9 = 0, - 4 + 4 = 0

so x = 9 or - 4

so x = 9

the 2 numbers are 9 and 4
