    To move a graph vertically and/or horizontally around the coordinate plane is called shifting or translation.

    Shifting is simply moving the graph. Horizontal shift would be moving/shifting the graph to left or right. Vertical shift would be moving/shifting the graph to up or down.

    There are another transformation methods that involve a more complex equation than shifting like mirroring or rotating.
