It would be easier to take the. 25 (twenty-five cents) times the nine and add $1 to the answer of that and that's how much a nine year old would cost to eat there.

if the child is nine, then that's what you replace x with.

y = (.25 x 9) + 1

.25 x 9 = 2.25

y = 2.25 + 1

2.25 + 1 = 3.25

y = 3.25
