    Area covered by flowers is X

    Area covered by vegetables is Y

    X/Y = 3/5

    5X = 3Y

    X + Y = 1600

    X + 5/3X = 1600

    8/3X = 1600

    X = 1600 * 3 / 8 = 600 Sq Yards

    3+5 = 8 then divide 1600 by

    8 = 200 then multiply 3 x 200 = 600
