What is the sum of the arithmetic series below? Use the formula for the sum of an arithmetic series.

    The first term is 2 (1) - 9 = - 7

    the common difference is 2

    there are (18 - 1) + 1 = 18 terms in this series

    the 18th term is - 7 + 2 (18-1) = 27

    the sum is

    sn = 18/2 (-7 + 27) = 180
