3/4x + 3 - 2x = - 1/4 + 1/2x + 5 ... multiply everything by 4 to get rid of fractions
3x + 12 - 8x = - 1 + 2x + 20 ... simplify
-5x + 12 = 2x + 19
-5x - 2x = 19 - 12
-7x = 7
x = - 7/7
x = - 1
