1/2+4/10 for example
in a decimal way: 1/2+4/10 = 0.5+0.4. add those two and it is 0.9
in a fraction: 1/2+4/10 = 5/10+4/10. add the numerators, which is 9, and you keep the denominator so it is 9/10
