A student taking management science 301 at east haven university will receive one of the five possible grades for the course: a, b, c, d, or f. the distribution of grades over the past two years is as follows: grade number of students a 80 b 75 c 90 d 30 f 25 total 300 if this past distribution is a good indicator of future grades, what is the probability of a student receiving a c in the course?

    Probability is the study of chances or the likelihood of an event occurring out of all possible events available. This is determined from gathered statistics that is assumed to be valid to be used as a correlation to same subject of projections of behavior. So, you would expect the answer to be expressed as part of the whole. That is either in fraction or percentages.

    For this problem, I think you want to find the probability of receiving an A grade or a C grade. In probability, if you want to find the probability of getting 'either event 1 or event 2', you have to add their individual probabilities. This is done by taking the individual statistic as the numerator, and the total number as the denominator.

    Probability of A = 80/300

    Probability of C = 90/300

    Total Probability = 80/300 + 90/300

    Total Probability = 17/30 or 56.67%
