    X+8

An expression means that there is no equals sign, and the sum of two numbers means addition. When you don't know what the number is, use a variable. A variable is an unknown number, and represents that it is an unknown number. "x" is the most common variable used.

x+8 means that you are adding an unknown number and 8 together.

I am not so sure but i think this might work.

Write an algebraic equation for " 8 more than x is equal to 17." Write an algebraic inequality for "one-fifth of x is greater than x minus." Write an algebraic inequality for "5 added to the quotient of a number and 3 is less than or equal to 7 times the sum of the number and 2." For the number, use the variable.
