Explain how you know that 492 x 10 exponent 5 is not in scientific notation.

    For it to be in scientific notation, there needs to be a decimal. 492 x 10^5 would need to be changed to 4.92 x 10^5 for it to be considered scientific notation. Whole numbers are void.
