Eliminate parenthesis by using the distribution property

    = 5x² - 3x + 3 - x² - 2x + 1

    Group similar terms

    = (5-1) * x² + (-3 - 2) * x + (3+1)

    Then sum everything:

    = 4x² - 5x + 4
