3 and a third minus 2 and two fifths

I'm not looking for the answer, I want to know HOW to solve this problem. Mixed numbers always trip me up

Alright so basically you want to start off with both fractions.

3 (1/3) - 2 (2/5).

Then you can make them both improper fractions by mutiplying the whole number (3 if you look at the first one) by the denominator, the bottom of the fraction, and add it to the numerator (top of fraction).

You should get this 10/3-12/5.

Now you can get like terms on the denominators in order to combine them.
