Well you add 1/2 + 1/2 = 1 in

(1/2+1/2) + (1/2+1/2) + (1/2+1/2) + (1/2+1/2) + (1/2+1/2) + 1/2=

2 half inches per parentheses pairs which is 5 plus the 1/2 inch
