A number is equal to twice a smaller number plus 3. The same number is equal to twice the sum of the smaller number and 1. How many solutions are possible for this situation?

    We have the 2 equations:-

    N = 2n + 3

    N = 2 (n + 1) or

    N = 2n + 2

    N cannot be equal to 2n + 3 AND 2n + 2.

    Therefore there are no solutions.
