In one day there are 24 hours, and each hour there are 60 minutes, so the minute hand makes 24*60=1440 full circles in one day. For each circle, the tip of the minute hand travels the entire circumference, which is 2*pi*r = 2*pi * (6 inches) = 12*pi inches. Multiplying by 1440 circles per day gives a distance of:

17280*pi inches, or 54,287 inches.
