    Count up all digits besides the first digit and that's was goes next to the little carrot (^) then if the other digits aren't zero (you include all sandwiched zeros though ex. 4609) you place all of them to the right of the decimal you then place the first digit the one you excluded when counting to the left of the decimal there should only ever be one digit there! The base for this equation is Yx10^z Y times 10 the z power Answer.) 1.0x10^4
