Bill's new porch is rectangular, with an area of 50 square feet. if the length of the porch is two times the width, what is the perimeter of the porch?

    P = 2L + 2W

    However, we are not given the length and width of the rectangle. Instead, we are given the area and the relation of the two dimensions. We use these values as follows:

    Area = LW

    where L = 2W

    50 = L (L/2)

    100 = L^2

    L = 25 ft

    W = 50 ft

    Therefore, the perimeter of the rectangular porch would be

    P = 2L + 2W

    P = 2 (25) + 2 (50)

    P = 150 ft
