The answer is False, you cannot determine the critical value by using the degrees of freedom alone. This cannot be done by only using the df or the degrees of freedom. To determine the critical value, you need to compute for the alpha and find the critical probability (p*) and then to express the critical value as a z score you need to find the z score having a cumulative probability equal to the critical probability (p*).
