The attendance at the smith family reunion was 160 people this was 125% or last years attendance how many people attended the reunion last year

    To solve this you can simply divide 160 by 1.25 which is the increase in people attending in decimal form; 125% = 1.25; and the resulting answer is 128 people attending last year's reunion. Or you could set up a proportion having the 125% (the amount of people attending this year) over 100% (the amount of people attend last year) and setting it equal to the number of people attending this year which is 160 over the unknown "x". 125/100 = 160/x. use some basic algebra and get 16000 = 125x then divide over the 125 and get x = 128 people.
