I have a year 8 maths mate question that I don't understand does anyone know the answer to it?

Choose the like terms: z, 2a, 3z

    Z and 3z

    because both terms contain the same variable, they can be combined to make 4z or 2z. By combining like terms, you simplify the problem set, whereas 2a and 3z can't be simplified, since their sum is just 2a+3z
