The perimeter of a square is directly proportional to the length of its sides.

A. Write an equation to represent this direct variation. Make sure to define your variables.

B. In complete sentences, use a specific example to justify your equation from part A. Include a drawing in your answer.

    A. p = nL, where p is the 'permiter', n is the number of sides, and L is the length of one side. This equation holds true for any equilateral object.

    B. Since the sides of a square are all equal and there are four sides to a square, one can easily see that the perimeter is 4L for example a 5 meter square would have a perimeter of 4x5, or 20 meters.
