    Solve for x over the real numbers:

    x^2 - 3 x - 8 = 0

    x = (3 ± sqrt ((-3) ^2 - 4 (-8))) / 2 = (3 ± sqrt (9 + 32)) / 2 = (3 ± sqrt (41)) / 2:

    Answer: x = (3 + sqrt (41)) / 2 or x = (3 - sqrt (41)) / 2 = using quadratic formula
