A cylindrical piece of iron pipe is shown below. The wall of the pipe is 1.25 inches thick, The width is 8 inches and the length is 14 inches, what is the approximate inside volume of the pipe?

    1. Deduct from the diameter (d) the thickness of the wall's pipe of 1.25in.

    d = 8in - (2 (1.25in))

    = 5.5in

    2. Get the radius (r), which is half of the diameter.

    r = 5.5in/2

    3. Get the volume of the cylinder with the formula, V = πr²h

    V = 3.14 * (2.75) ² * 14in

    = 332.45in³

    Thus, the iron pipe can hold approximately 332.45 cubic inches.
