    Step-by-step explanation:

    Mariam is making two types of paper lanterns. One type of flashlight needs 0.75 square feet of cardboard, while the other needs 1.15 square feet. If she made 5 of each type of flashlight, it means that

    For the first type flashlight that she made, she used 0.75 * 5 = 3.75 square feet of cardboard.

    For the second type of flashlight she made, she used 1.15 * 5 = 5.75 square feet of cardboard.

    Total amount of cardboard used is

    3.75 + 5.75 = 9.5 square feet

    Mariam has 12.75 square feet of paper left over. Assuming the total square feet of cardboard that she used is x, then x = amount of cardboard used + the amount that is left over. It becomes

    x = 9.5 + 12.75 = 22.25 square feet

    She used 22.25 square feet
