    The numbers are 72 and 24

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the 1st no. Be y

    2nd no. Is 1/3y

    y - y/3 = 48

    Multiply each term by 3

    3y - y = 144

    2y = 144

    y = 144/2

    y = 72

    Than the second no. Is y/3 = 72/3

    = 24
