A gravel path is to be built around an 12 ft by 22 ft rectangular garden. If the width remains constant, how wide can the path be if there is enough gravel for 552 square feet?

    2w (12+2w) + 2*22w = 552

    w (12+2w) + 22w = 276

    2w^2+34w-276 = 0

    w^2+17w-138 = 0

    (w-6) (w+23) = 0

    width = 6 ft
