    6 (x+1) - 5x = 8 + 2 (x-1)

    Use the distributive property:

    6x + 6 - 5x = 8 + 2x - 2

    Combine like terms:

    X + 6 = 6 + 2x

    Subtract 2x from both sides:

    -x + 6 = 6

    Subtract 6 from both sides:

    -x = 0

    Divide both sides by - 1:

    X = 0
