    5x-3y=16

    3x-5y=-4

    Multiply the first equation by 3; the second one by 5

    15x-9y=48

    15x-25y=-20

    Eq 1 - Eq 2:

    -9y+25y=48+20=68

    16y=68

    4y=17

    y=17/4

    5x-3y=16

    5x-3*17/4=16

    5x=16+51/4 = (64+51) / 4=115/4

    x=115/4/5=23/4

    x=23/4
